Halloween here is a neighbourhood affair — a closed-off street, a school disco, a shopping centre afternoon — rather than the all-night event it is overseas. QiBear fits that shape: a short, high-energy session of pumpkins, spiders, bats and black cats, pitched so the youngest trick-or-treaters are not spooked.
What does a Halloween booking look like here?
Australian Halloween runs on a different scale to the American version, and the bookings reflect that. Ours are mostly street and cul-de-sac parties where a handful of families pool a nature strip, school discos and P&C-run Halloween nights, shopping centre and community-hall afternoons, and the occasional themed birthday that happens to fall in late October.
Nearly all of them are short. A street party where twenty children pass through over ninety minutes is a very different job to a three-hour fete, and it usually needs a single focused hour rather than a long session. The designs skew to a recognisable Halloween set — pumpkins, spiders, bats, witches' hats, black cats and mummies — in an orange, black and purple palette, with the usual swords, flowers and puppies still on offer for children who want no part of the theme.

Are the designs too scary for little kids?
This is the question we get asked most about Halloween, usually by a parent of a three-year-old who has been brought along with an older sibling. The honest answer is that it is entirely under our control, so tell us. A pumpkin, a black cat or a friendly ghost reads as fun rather than frightening to a toddler, while spiders and bats land better with primary-school kids.
Because we take requests one child at a time rather than working through a fixed program, we can pitch each creation to the child in front of us. If a little one looks uncertain, they get a puppy or a flower instead and nobody makes a thing of it.

How long should a Halloween session run?
Most Halloween bookings are one or two hours, which is shorter than our typical weekend party. A one-hour booking is AUD 160–180 and comfortably covers around ten children; two hours is AUD 275 and suits roughly twenty. For a street party, count the households rather than guessing — five families with two kids each is a one-hour job, twelve is not.
Timing is the other thing worth thinking about. Halloween events here tend to start late in the afternoon and run into the evening, so if the session extends past dusk we need a lit, level spot to work in — a driveway with a sensor light, a hall, or a marquee with a lamp. Balloons and materials are included either way, and travel is free within 15 km of Drewvale with a flat AUD 30 from 15 to 40 km.
October dates are worth locking in by late September, since the 31st itself only comes around once and every street party on it wants the same few hours.
