What makes a Christmas booking different?

Most of our December work is not a standard birthday party. It is a workplace family day where staff bring their kids, a church or community carols night, a street or neighbourhood gathering, or an extended-family lunch where a dozen cousins need something to do between the food and the presents. The common thread is a wide age range and no fixed schedule — children drift over in ones and twos rather than sitting down together.

That suits balloon twisting well. We work from a spot you nominate and keep twisting continuously for the booked session, so there is always something happening without anyone having to organise a group activity. Christmas requests we hear most are reindeer, snowmen, candy canes, stars, angels and Christmas trees, but the same session will happily turn out a sword or a puppy for a child who has had enough of the theme.

Does the Brisbane heat affect the balloons?

Yes, and it is worth planning around. A Brisbane December regularly runs past 30 degrees with high humidity, and latex balloons sitting in direct summer sun are far less durable than the same balloons indoors. For outdoor December bookings we ask for a shaded, level spot to work from — under a marquee, a verandah, a tree or the shaded side of a building. Air-conditioned indoor events have no such constraint.

It also changes what children go home with. Creations made in the shade and carried inside last well; the same balloon left in a hot car or on a sunny table will not. We mention this on the day so parents are not surprised.

When should you book for December?

Earlier than you think. We normally suggest two to three weeks' notice for a weekend booking, but December is the tightest month of the year and the good dates — the first three weekends and the weekday evenings around them — go first. If your date is already fixed, four to six weeks ahead is a safer target, and workplace events that need an invoice raised before the end of the financial half-year are better locked in earlier still.

Pricing is the same as any other month: a one-hour booking is AUD 160–180 depending on travel and intensity, two hours AUD 275 and three hours AUD 400, with balloons and materials included and no per-balloon charge. Travel is free within 15 km of Drewvale. As a rough guide, one hour suits about ten children, two hours about twenty and three hours about thirty — for a work family day with an unknown headcount, size up rather than down.
